80 (6) CHILDREN’S SOCIAL SERVICES IN THE SPOTLIGHT – WHERE TO NEXT? – The Service Director Legal and Democratic submitted a report in connection with a one day conference being organised by the Local Government Association to be held on Thursday 24 September 2009 at Local Government House in London entitled “Children’s Social Services in the Spotlight – Where to Next?”.

The conference will explore national issues in relation to the safety and protection of children in England.

Resolved – That the cabinet member for children’s services be authorised to attend the above mentioned conference.

81 (7) PLANNING SUMMER SCHOOL 2009 – A report was submitted by the Service Director Legal and Democratic in connection with this year’s planning summer school to be held in Exeter from 4 – 7 September 2009.

The summer school would explore issues relating to the ever complicated planning and development process.

Resolved – That Councillors Collinson and Bainbridge be authorised to attend the planning summer school.

82 (8) NATIONAL CHILDREN AND ADULT SERVICES CONFERENCE – The Service Director Legal and Democratic submitted a report in connection with this year’s Annual National Children and Adult Services Conference which will take place on Wednesday 21 to Friday 23 October 2009 at the Harrogate International Centre.

The theme of this year’s conference is “Rising to the Challenge: Brighter Futures for All” – with the conference addressing the challenges that arise in the Children and Adult Sector and how the outcomes can predict a brighter future in the changing political landscape.

Resolved – That the cabinet member for Adult Services be authorised to attend the above mentioned conference.
