Highways & Neighbourhoods Cabinet Member – Minutes – 30 March 2012

78  (77)  CHANGES TO CAR PARKING CHARGES – The Director of Infrastructure Services submitted a report seeking approval to change car parking charges in four selected car parks in North Lincolnshire.

Car Parking charges had previously applied on all pay and display car parks in Scunthorpe, Ashby and Brigg.  In September 2011 the council introduced two hour free parking in Brigg and one hour free parking in Ashby.  In addition one hour free parking was introduced in three car parks in Scunthorpe.

The report outlined the proposal to further encourage trade by providing free parking after 3pm in selected car parks. The car parks selected were:

  • Allanby Street, Scunthorpe
  • King Street/Winterton Road, Scunthorpe
  • King Street (rear of flats), Scunthorpe
  • Ashby High Street (301), Ashby

It was anticipated that the introduction of further concessions would benefit traders and help to stimulate business in the current economic climate.

An urgent decision was required to enable the introduction of these revised charges to take effect from 23 April 2012 and for the lead in period for the necessary associated software.

Resolved –  (a) That the the amendment to the charging hours for the car parks listed within the report, from 8am-6pm to 8am-3pm be approved and take effect from 23 April 2012, and (b) that the cost implications be kept under review.
