Highways & Neighbourhoods Cabinet Member – Minutes – 31 October 2011

26  (26) PROPOSED RELAXATION OF CAR PARKING CHARGES FOR LATE NIGHT CHRISTMAS SHOPPING EVENTS – The Director of Infrastructure Services submitted a report to reconsider the relaxation of car parking charges as in previous years, to coincide with the late night Christmas shopping events in Scunthorpe and Brigg. An urgent decision was requested to enable immediate publication of the proposed dates.

In previous years charging for car parking had been relaxed from 4pm on the evenings when the late night shopping events were taking place. Any monies taken through the ticket machines after 4pm had been donated to charity (the Mayor’s appeal fund/Brigg Mayor’s appeal fund) and the public had been advised of this fact if they wished to make a contribution.

The late night Christmas shopping events for 2011 were taking place following the switch on of the lights on Thursday 17 November in Scunthorpe.

The report proposed the relaxation of car parking charges after 4pm on the following dates in Scunthorpe and Ashby:

  • Thursday 17 November
  • Thursday 24 November
  • Thursday 1 December
  • Thursday 8 December
  • Thursday 15 December
  • Thursday 22 December
  • Friday 2 December in Brigg.

Resolved – (a) That the proposal to waive charging after 4pm on 17 November, 24 November, 1 December, 8 December, 15 December and 22 December in Scunthorpe and Ashby and on 2 December in Brigg be approved, (b) that an urgent decision be taken to allow immediate publication of the proposed dates, to enable traders to make necessary arrangements and (c) that any revenue received be donated to the relevant Mayor’s appeal funds.

Where there is no report this is because it is exempt, as it contains information which is considered to be of a confidential nature, as detailed in the Local Government (Access to Information) Act.
