Asset Management, Culture & Housing Cabinet Member – Minutes – 26 September 2012

The corresponding report of the following item (Minute 20 refers) contains exempt information as defined in Paragraph 3 of Part 1 of Schedule 12A of the Local Government Act 1972 (as amended).

20 (20) DEMOLITION OF BLOCK A MELIOR SOUTH, SCUNTHORPE – The Director of Places submitted a report considering the demolition of Block A at the former Melior South school site.

The former Melior South site was substantially vacated some years ago.  This was due to the school being rationalised into the main Melior North site, off West Common Lane.

The Learning Development Centre currently remained on the site in Block B.  However, the building had some substantial long term maintenance issues, which would be very costly to deal with.  Plans are in development to relocate these activities to a number of other sites across North Lincolnshire.  It was envisaged that all training related activity would have moved by the end of December.

Office based staff would also need to move from Block B, options for those teams were being explored, it was hoped that they would be relocated in early 2013.

The Kimberley School of Dance occupied the remainder of Block B, it was therefore necessary to retain part of the block.  It was a discrete area of the site and should not duly interfere with any long term options.

Tenders had been obtained for the demolition of Block A, details of the tenders were set out in Appendix A to the report.

Resolved – (a) That the proposal to accept the lowest tender on Block A, allowing immediate progress of demolition works, be approved, and (b) that consultation takes place with Ward Members and community representatives to investigate the future of the Melior site.

Where there is no report this is because it is exempt, as it contains information which is considered to be of a confidential nature, as detailed in the Local Government (Access to Information) Act.
