Highways & Neighbourhoods Cabinet Member – Minutes – 21 January 2013

39        (36) ADDITIONAL GOVERNMENT FUNDING FOR HIGHWAY MAINTENANCE The Director of Places submitted a report seeking approval of an offer of additional funding for highway related maintenance from the Department for Transport in 2013/14 and 2014/15.

It was explained that in his autumn statement, the Chancellor of the Exchequer announced an additional £333 million was to be made available for essential maintenance to renew, repair and extend the life of the highway network in England.  Of the total fund available, £215 million was to be allocated to local highway authorities in England.

From this, it was outlined that North Lincolnshire Council’s indicative allocations amounted to £630,000 in 2013/14 and £334,000 in 2014/15, a total of £964,000 over the two years.

An urgent decision was needed to allow for meeting the deadline for acceptance of 31 January 2013.

Resolved – That the Director of Places be authorised to accept the Department for Transport’s offer of additional funding for highways maintenance.
