The Leader of the Council – Minutes – 15 March 2013

52        (33) PROVISION OF SIXTH FORM ACCOMODATION FOR THE ISLE OF AXHOLME – The Director of Places submitted a report which sought approval for the relocation of seven modular buildings that were expected to become surplus to requirements in late 2013.

The report identified that a number of relocatable modular buildings were purchased as part of the Building Schools for the Future (BSF) programme.  They were used to provide accommodation for teaching while construction works were in progress, and  wherever possible, this accommodation had been reused within the BSF programme.

In 2011 some modular buildings were relocated from Brumby Engineering College to the St Lawrence Academy, however by late 2013 these modular buildings should become available for alternative use.  No alternative use for the relocatable modular buildings was known to the council that fit the timescale required.

It was explained that the South Axholme Academy planned to open a Sixth Form, which would necessitate providing additional accommodation.  It was considered that the relocation and reuse of the modular buildings would provide a practical and relatively low cost solution to an accommodation need for the Sixth Form at South Axholme Academy.

Resolved – (a)  That option one as detailed within the report be approved, and (b) that the necessary finance to support any relocation and reuse of the modular buildings, as referenced in paragraph 5.1 of the report be taken from the schools capital provision.
