The Leader of the Council – Regeneration Cabinet Member – Minutes – 17 April 2013

58        (39)  EXTENSION OF NORTH LINCOLNSHIRE PARTNERSHIP – The Director of Places submitted a report which sought approval to establish six new temporary six-month posts funded through Job Centre plus Wage Incentive and for the Council to deliver a Young Workers scheme.

Representations had been made to the council to deliver a new Young Workers scheme for long term job seekers within North Lincolnshire using wage incentive monies. In response, an initial programme was proposed enabling the creation of six jobs for long-term claimants.

It was explained that youth unemployment was a major concern, that people under 25 were significantly more likely to be unemployed than the rest of the population and that youth unemployment in the North Lincolnshire had increased significantly in the last year.

The objectives in creating the job opportunities were to provide young people with:

  • employment opportunities
  • a stepping stone into further employment
  • work skills, experience and qualities
  • job search techniques and development of career idea

Resolved – That the proposal to create six new temporary jobs within the private sector using funding from the Wage Incentive, supported by the council, be approved.
