96        (12) APPRENTICESHIP PROGRAMMEThe Director of Places submitted a report which sought approval to establish 10 new level two apprenticeship opportunities as part of the wider apprenticeship programme for April 2015.

An apprenticeship with the council allowed someone to work in the council, earn a salary and gain a qualification at the same time. The apprenticeship lasted at least 12 months and was open to anyone regardless of age or qualifications.

It was explained that since April 2012, the council had employed 87 apprentices who had worked in a wide range of service area’s.

The apprenticeship programme had proven highly popular and successful and a number of apprentices had progressed into full-time sustainable employment.

Resolved – That the creation of 10 new apprenticeship opportunities for April 2015 be approved.
