Business, Innovation, Employment and Skills Cabinet Member – Minutes – 9 August 2016

10 (10) ADULT COMMUNITY LEARNING OFSTED INSPECTION OUTCOME– The Director of Places submitted a report informing the Cabinet Member of the outcome of the Ofsted inspection of Adult Community Learning undertaken between 14-17 June 2016.

All providers funded by the Skills Funding Agency were subject to Further Education and Skills Inspection. The inspections were carried out using the Common Inspection Framework. This was in line with the Education and Inspections Act 2006.

The overall aim of inspection was to evaluate how efficiently and effectively the education and training provision met learners’ needs. Inspectors gathered evidence from observations, success data, a range of interviews and written evidence.

The inspection report gave an overall judgement based on:

• Effectiveness of leadership and management
• Quality of teaching, learning and assessment
• Personal development, behaviour and welfare
• Outcomes for learners
• Adult learning programmes

Resolved – (a) That improvements in Adult Community Learning aimed at achieving the ambition for the service to secure an ‘Outstanding’ rating at the next Ofsted inspection be supported, and (b) that the Cabinet Member writes to staff regarding the outcomes of their inspection.
