Health and Wellbeing Cabinet Member – Minutes – 10 June 2016

1  (1) MAJOR PARTNER MUSEUM FUNDED POST – NORTH LINCOLNSHIRE MUSEUM SERVICE – The Director of Places submitted a report which sought approval for the establishment of a fixed term post of a Collections Assistant at the North Lincolnshire Museum.

The Arts Council England awarded Major Partner Museum Status to the Humber Museums Partnership (HMP) which included North Lincolnshire Museum Service, East Riding of Yorkshire Museum Service and Hull City Museums. There were over 2000 museums in the United Kingdom and only 21 of them had been awarded Major Partner Museum Status.

Arts Council England awarded a grant of £2,500,000 jointly to the HMP. £372,639 from the grant was being used to fund improvements to the North Lincolnshire Museum and at Normanby Hall Country Park. This would include the new Steel Gallery at the North Lincolnshire Museum which was due to open in February 2017 and in October work would begin to install a new under 5’s area in the farming museum at Normanby Hall which would open in time for the start of the new season in April 2017.

In May 2016 at a meeting of the HMP Board, a further £10,000 was allocated by the Arts Council England to the North Lincolnshire Museum Service. The funding would be used to employ a fixed term Collections Assistant at the North Lincolnshire Museum.

Resolved – That the establishment of the post of Collections Assistant at North Lincolnshire Museum be approved.
