Safer, Greener & Cleaner Places Cabinet Member – Minutes – 5 December 2017 (Urgt)

18 (18) PARKING RESTRICTIONS – NORMANBY ROAD, SCUNTHORPE – The Director: Operations submitted an urgent report considering objections received to an Experimental Traffic Regulation Order.

Parking restrictions were introduced on Normanby Road in June 2016 following the relocation of Crosby Primary School.  Details of the restrictions were set out in Appendix 2 to the report.

The school safety measures discouraged parking and stopping in front of the school on Normanby Road. Officers felt that it was not a safe place for parents to park as the road was busy and had a 40 mph speed limit. It also carried a large number of heavy goods vehicles.

An experimental order had been used to allow the council to address any issues caused by displaced parking. One amendment was made to stop parking behind the school keep clear markings on the entrance road to the school. It was now proposed to make this order permanent.

Following a period of formal consultation one objection was received from a nearby resident. They were concerned that the loss of parking on Normanby Road would increase parking on Chatterton Crescent.

An urgent decision was requested as the Experimental Traffic Regulation Order was due to expire on 5 December 2017.

Resolved – That the proposed Traffic Regulation Order be approved.
