Corporate Scrutiny Panel – 26 September 2013

The panel met at the Civic Centre, Scunthorpe.

198  DECLARATIONS OF DISCLOSABLE PECUNIARY INTERESTS AND PERSONAL OR PERSONAL AND PREJUDICIAL INTERESTS AND DECLARATIONS OF WHIPPING ARRANGEMENTS (IF ANY) – There were no declarations of disclosable pecuniary interests and personal or personal and prejudicial interests –

No whip was declared.

199  PUBLIC REQUESTS TO SPEAK There were no requests received.

200  SCRUTINY REVIEW – SICKNESS ABSENCE – The Director of Policy and Resources brought to the attention of the panel, the former Economic Development and Corporate Issues Scrutiny Panel’s previous report on sickness absence, carried out in February 2010.  The focused on recommendations that had been made in this report,  if they had been carried out, and also to seek the current position with regards to the council’s current sickness absence levels.

The Chairman invited Helen Manderson, the Assistant Director, Human Resources to the meeting and asked her to update the panel on current sickness absence levels, and what progress had been made to date on the previous recommendations made in 2010.  Helen proceeded to inform the panel of a list of measures that had taken place since the last review, and changes that had been made to policy, along with the current sickness levels for the council.  Long term and short term sickness absences were also discussed with the panel, and highlighted as a measure to combat long term sickness was the use of a new tool kit.

Resolved – (a) That the 2010 report and recommendations be noted, (b) that Helen Manderson be thanked for her attendance, and (c) that appropriate officers be invited to attend to inform the panel of the new sickness tool kit.
