Highways, Planning & Energy Cabinet Member – Minutes – 27 October 2010

101 (8) PROPOSED RELAXATION OF CAR PARKING CHARGES FOR LATE NIGHT CHRISTMAS SHOPPING EVENTS – The Service Director Highways and Planning submitted a report to reconsider the relaxation of car parking charges as in previous years, to coincide with the late night Christmas shopping events in Scunthorpe and Brigg.

In previous years charging for car parking had been relaxed from 4pm on the evenings when the late night shopping events were taking place. Any monies taken through the ticket machines after 4 pm had been donated to charity (the Mayor’s appeal fund/Brigg Mayor’s appeal fund) and the public had been advised of this fact if they wished to make a contribution.

The late night Christmas shopping events for 2010 were taking place following the switch on of the lights on Thursday 18 November in Scunthorpe.

The report proposed the relaxation of car parking charges after 4pm on the following dates in Scunthorpe and Ashby:

  • Thursday 18 November
  • Thursday 25 November
  • Thursday 2 December
  • Thursday 9 December
  • Thursday 16 December
  • Thursday 23 December
  • Friday 3 December in Brigg.

Resolved – (a) That the proposal to waive charging after 4pm on 18 November, 25 November, 2 December, 9 December, 16 December and 23 December in Scunthorpe and Ashby and on 3 December in Brigg be approved, and (b) that any revenue received be donated to the relevant Mayors appeal funds.
