Adult and Children’s Services Cabinet Member – minutes – 8 June 2011

1 (1) POST 16 STUDENT TRANSPORT – The Director of Children and Young People’s Service submitted a report seeking approval for the post 16 student transport policies for the academic year 2011/12.

The issue was urgent as the policies required publishing in line with the statutory requirements.

There were two post 16 student transport policies. One policy related to students who had special educational or medical needs, and another which related to students who did not need additional support.

The policies were reviewed and reissued every year. The revised policy was appended to the report.

During the academic year 2011/12 transport support was provided for 49 students with special or medical needs and 1088 other students.

Students were required to make a contribution to the cost of their transport. The annual contribution in 2011/12 was £185, or £195 if paid in termly instalments, which entitled pupils to a bus pass to travel free on college days.

Resolved – (a) That the reduced schedule of fees and the changes to the wording of the policies for 2011/12 set out in Appendix 1 of the report be approved.
