Adult & Children’s Services Cabinet Member – Minutes – 22 September 2011

27  (27) RIDDINGS INFANT SCHOOL AND RIDDINGS JUNIOR SCHOOL AMALGAMATION INSTRUMENT OF GOVERNMENT – The Director of Children and Young People’s Service submitted a report which outlined that further to the decision taken to amalgamate Riddings Infant and Riddings Junior Schools (Minute 24 refers), it was necessary to seek approval of the new instrument of government.

The report explained that the governing body of the Riddings Federation met on 20 September 2011 to discuss the name of the new school, and following a vote, the governing body recommended that the school be known as ‘Willoughby Road Primary School’.

The Director of Children and Young People’s Service confirmed that in order to ensure the new school had a governing body in place on 23 September 2011, it was necessary to effectively transfer the Riddings federated governing body to Willoughby Road Primary School.  This would be undertaken by ratifying a new Instrument of Government (Appendix 1 to the report).  All existing governors of the Riddings Federation would therefore be re-established onto the new governing body of Willoughby Road Primary School.

An urgent decision was required in order to meet the timescales set out in the statutory notice.

Resolved – That the Instrument of Government as shown in Appendix 1 to the report, and the new name ‘Willoughby Road Primary School’ be approved.
