23 (23) CORPORATE DIVERSITY POLICY AND DIVERSITY AIMS, OUTCOMES AND OBJECTIVES FRAMEWORK – The Director of Corporate and Community Services submitted a report seeking approval of the new Diversity Policy and Diversity Aims, Outcomes and Framework 2012-2014.
The documents had been written to reflect the new council priorities and the general and specific duties of the Equality Act 2010 (the latter demonstrated by the setting of equality objectives within the Framework).
An urgent decision was requested to ensure that the 2012 council priorities relating to equality and diversity could be incorporated and adopted with immediate effect in accordance with the Equality Act 2010.
The previous diversity policy was last updated in June 2011, and subsequently subject to a comprehensive review to:
- Incorporate the 2012 council priorities relating to equality and diversity.
- Identify the council’s duty to promote equality in relation to the nine protected characteristics in the Equality Act 2010.
- Make reference and provide links to the council’s Published Information (Public Sector Equality Duty – published 31 January 2012 and Equality Objectives).
- Make responsibilities clearer (reflecting the council re-structure).
Resolved – (a) That the Diversity Policy and Framework be approved; (b) that the objectives be reviewed on an annual basis, and (c) that further reports on the implementation and progress made on the Framework be received.
