15        (15)  THE PODS CLIMBING WALL – The Director of Places submitted a report which sought approval for the addition of a climbing wall at The Pods, in Scunthorpe.

The Pods opened in June 2011 and it was expected that around 384,000 people would visit The Pods in the current year.

The principal facilities comprised a number of modern sporting and leisure facilities, which included a 25m, 8 lane swimming pool, training pool, fitness centre, 2 studios, a six court sports hall, café and crèche.  It was explained that the original design brief had included a climbing wall, however this had been excluded at an early stage of design development due to concerns over cost.

The report identified that customer feedback had suggested that a climbing wall would prove popular and an appropriate space for a climbing wall had been identified on the sports hall viewing gallery.

It was considered that this would improve the offer to customers and would also provide a potential opportunity to develop revenue streams.

Resolved – That the provisions of a new climbing wall facility at The Pods be approved.
