Sport & Leisure Cabinet Member – Minutes – 11 February 2013

14        (14)  QUIBELL PARK – The Director of Places submitted a report for consideration of the options for upgrading the sports facilities at Quibell Park, sought approval to conduct a consultation exercise to seek the views of Quibell Park users and the public, and also sought approval to demolish the fire damaged existing grandstand.

It was explained that Quibell Park was North Lincolnshire council’s major outdoor sports facility which included an athletics track, velodrome, grass football pitches, floodlit synthetic turf pitch, changing rooms and spectator grandstand.

A condition survey had concluded that the main facilities, with the exception of the velodrome, needed to be replaced or refurbished as it was considered that they did not provide an acceptable offer for customers.  In addition, the fire in the grandstand on 7 November 2012 had caused extensive damage to the facilities.

Details of the proposed options were outlined within the report.

Resolved – (a)  That option two as outlined within the report, be approved and a consultation exercise be supported; (b) that the demolition of the existing fire damaged changing and spectator accommodation be approved, and (c) that the financial implications of implementing this scheme be considered in the forthcoming budget.
