Highways & Neighbourhoods Cabinet Member – Minutes – 11 October 2012

100      (17) STAGECOACH HUMBER FLYER BUS SERVICEThe Director of Places submitted a reportseeking approval to contribute funding towards the cost of Stagecoach’s Humber Flyer service.

The Humber Flyer was a bus service which ran between Hull via Humberside Airport to Grimsby and Cleethorpes.  The service ran every hour, Monday to Saturday.  The service did not make a profit and in recent years the council had paid £2,000 annual towards Stagecoach’s losses.

The number of bus users had gone up and in 2012/13, Stagecoach had asked for £1,700.  North East Lincolnshire, Hull City and Lincolnshire County Councils also contributed, along with Humberside Airport.

Following a request from a constituent, the local Member of Parliament had asked that the service should run via Barnetby.  Stagecoach could not divert every journey through the village, as they could not keep up with the hourly frequency if they did so.  However, from 4 November 2012, there would be a bus from Barnetby to Hull at 9.10 am, returning at 2.50 pm.

Resolved – That the proposal to contribute £1,700 in 2012/13 towards the cost of the Stagecoach Humber Flyer service be approved.
