The Leader – Regeneration Cabinet Member – Minutes – 17 May 2012

21        (2) BRIGG HERITAGE CENTRE VOLUNTEER COORDINATOR – The Director of Places submitted a report seeking approval for the creation of a new 12 month fixed term post (18 hours per week) to coordinate the volunteers at Brigg Heritage Centre.

It was explained that an urgent decision was necessary as the Heritage Centre was due to open on 1 June 2012 and did not have sufficient volunteers to staff the Centre.

The report outlined that Brigg Heritage Centre would open on 1 June 2012.  It would be located on the first floor of the Angel with displays on the history of Brigg, the Ancholme Valley and with the centrepiece being the ‘Brigg Raft’, a historic boat dating from c.900 BC. Admission would be free and there would be a small gift shop on the premises.

It was explained that this was the first phase of a major project which would attract thousands of new visitors into Brigg and boost the local economy. It was anticipated that this would also provide a valuable education resource for schools and colleges.

The project had been part funded by the LEADER programme.

Resolved – (a)  That the creation of a new 12-month fixed term post (18 hours per week) of Brigg Heritage Centre Volunteer Coordinator be approved.
