The Leader – Regeneration Cabinet Member – Minutes – 3 August 2012

25  (6) Industrial communities alliance membership – The Director of Places submitted a report which considered the renewal of the council’s membership in the Industrial Communities Alliance.  The Industrial Communities Alliance was a local authority association which campaigned on behalf of councils.

The council had participated as a member of the Alliance since its amalgamation of the Coalfield Communities Campaign and Steel Action.  Coal mining related issues now regularly dominated the business of the Alliance and Alliance meetings, both nationally and regionally.

The Alliance Membership subscription was now due for renewal and the report considered the council’s membership including value for money and the role of the Local Enterprise Partnerships.

It was considered that the Local Enterprise Partnerships (LEP) provided the necessary lead on the strategic direction for the local economy and were better placed to influence the key economic drivers affecting the area.

Resolved – (a) That the council’s membership of the Industrial Communities Alliance not be renewed, and (b) that the council uses its involvement with the Local Enterprise Partnerships to deliver an improved cross sector lobbying facility to provide optimum benefit for the North Lincolnshire economy.
