Policy & Resources Cabinet Member – Minutes – 12 February 2013

40        (40) INFORMATION SECURITY POLICY –The Director of Policy and Resources submitted a report which sought consideration and approval of an updated information security policy.

The report identified that the council had an over-arching information management policy that set out the principles for managing all information assets and application of regulatory frameworks and standards for managing data and information across the council.  However, to ensure that the council met its obligations arising through the National Health Service (NHS) public health transition arrangements, it was necessary to adopt an information security policy.

The cabinet member was advised that information security needed to be reinforced across the workforce, and it was intended that a training programme, taking on varying forms, be delivered to all appropriate council employees.

Consultation had taken place with various groups, and the policy had also been approved by the appropriate officer in the NHS.

Resolved – That the Information Security Policy be approved.
