15 (14) COMMUNITY GRANT FUND – QUEEN’S BIRTHDAY CELEBRATIONS 2016 – The Director of Places and the Director of People submitted a report seeking consideration of a scheme of potential support for community groups to celebrate the Queen’s 90th birthday in 2016.The Queen was due to celebrate her 90th birthday in 2016. Many communities planned to mark the occasion. To help communities celebrate significant events in the past, a sum of money had been made available from the community grant fund. The initiatives requesting financial support were likely to range from large celebrations, street parties and small community events, to marking the occasion by supplying commemorative mugs or coins to young people.Town and Parish councils, constituted community groups and even informal groups of neighbours would need support. Many people may be thinking of ways they could celebrate, but organising events could prove expensive.  A lot of time was spent planning for the event and with that came the associated costs, which could be supported through the community grant fund.Resolved – (a) That the scheme of grant aid for communities to celebrate the Queen’s birthday in 2016, as set out in the report and accompanying appendix, be approved, and (b) that a sum of £25,000 be made available for the scheme from the community grant revenue budget for 2016/17.
