Customer Services, Sport & Leisure Cabinet Member – 26 October 2015

7  (7)  PROJECT OFFICER – SPORTS FACILITIES CAPITAL PROJECTS – The Director of Places submitted a report seeking approval for the establishment and recruitment of a temporary Project Officer to support the delivery of the capital and major projects programme for Sports Facilities.

The council’s capital programme included significant investment in Sports Facilities over the next three years. This included:

  • A new Sports Centre and swimming pool in Crowle
  • Development of facilities at Brigg Recreation Ground
  • A new gym and skate park in Winterton
  • A new sports centre in Burton upon Stather

These new facilities would enhance local communities, help to drive up participation in sport and leisure activity, generate new income streams and promote healthier lifestyles.

It was vital that these high profile developments were achieved on time, within budget and in accordance with relevant funding criteria.

In order to meet the desired outcomes the council needed to ensure effective project management, market and promote the new facilities, and prepare for their operational delivery.

It was proposed to create a temporary Project Officer post within Sports Facilities to provide the necessary focus to deliver these key projects.

Resolved – That the establishment and recruitment of a temporary Project Officer to support the delivery of the Sports Facilities capital building programme, as set out in the report, be approved.
