25  (25)  APPRENTICE PAY – The Director of Policy and Resources submitted an urgent report which sought approval to amend the council’s pay rates for apprentices to ensure continued compliance with National Minimum Wage (NMW) requirements.

This matter was considered urgent, as it would allow the council to ensure it complied with the NMW implementation date of 1 October 2016, for all apprentices concerned.

The report informed the Cabinet Member that the NMW rates, which included those for apprentices, was due to increase with effect from 1 October 2016.

The report highlighted the current rates of pay for all apprentices and identified what impact the NMW increase in pay would have on its apprentices.

ResolvedThat in line with the National Minimum Wage requirement, as set out in option 1 at paragraphs 3.1 and 3.2 of the report, the increase in the rates of pay for all apprentices be approved and adopted
