Governance and Transformation Cabinet Member – Minutes – 11 August 2016

16  (16) CASHLESS PARKING – The Director of Places submitted a report seeking approval of the introduction of cashless parking as an alternative payment system in all pay and display car parks on a trial basis. The council had 35 ticket machines in the pay and display car parks which generated an annual gross revenue of approximately £304,000.

The only parking ticket payment option available at the 35 ticket machines to drivers was cash. Cashless parking would operate alongside the existing cash collection system and would allow motorists the convenience of paying to park their vehicle using a mobile phone and bank card instead of using coins.

Drivers would initially be required to set up an account with the service provider to register their details (unless they were already registered after visiting other areas of the country). Whenever a driver then visited a North Lincolnshire car park, they would have a number of options available to pay for the desired length of visit. Drivers would also have the option to receive a reminder text when their parking session was due to end.

The report gave full details of the scheme including financial implications.

Resolved – That the introduction of cashless parking as an alternative payment system on a trial basis for two years be approved.
