Children, Families & Learning Cabinet Member – Minutes – 10 August 2017

53 (53) TO EXTEND THE AGE RANGE OF OAKFIELD PRIMARY TO INCLUDE NURSERY PROVISION – The Director: Learning, Skills and Culture submitted a report seeking approval to implement the proposal to extend the age range of Oakfield Primary School to include nursery provision.

Informal consultation was undertaken in April to establish if there was support for establishing nursery provision at Oakfield Primary School.  The majority of respondents supported a nursery being established. This was the first stage in the statutory procedure for changing the age range of a school.

On 21 June 2017 Cabinet Member approval was granted for a public consultation to be undertaken on the proposal to extend the age range of Oakfield Primary School to include nursery provision (minute 41 refers).  The public notice formally confirmed the council’s intention to extend the age range of the school to include nursery provision.  The public notice was published on 29 June 2017 and was open for a four week period.  This gave interested parties an opportunity to express objections or concerns.    The consultation ran from 29 June 2017 to 27 July 2017.

No objections or concerns had been raised by interested parties about the proposal.  The next stage in the statutory process was for the council to determine whether to proceed with or withdraw the proposal.

Resolved – That the proposal to extend the age range of Oakfield Primary School to include nursery provision, with effect from 1 January 2018, as set out in the report, be approved.
