People Scrutiny Panel (Special Meeting) – 8 March 2012

PRESENT:  Councillor Mrs Bromby in the chair.
Councillors Barker (Vice-Chair), Jawaid MBE, and Wells.

Statutory Co-opted Members: Mrs A Dunkerley (Parent Governor Representative).

Councillor Collinson attended the meeting in accordance with the provisions of Procedure Rule 1.36 (b).

The panel met at the Civic Centre, Scunthorpe.

63  DECLARATIONS OF PERSONAL OR PERSONAL AND PREJUDICIAL INTERESTS AND DECLARATIONS OF WHIPPING ARRANGEMENTS (IF ANY) – There were no declarations of personal or personal and prejudicial interests.

No whip was declared.

64  PUBLIC REQUESTS TO SPEAK – There were no requests received.

65  SUPPORT FOR YOUNG PEOPLE LEAVING CARE – The Chairman welcomed Mick Gibbs, Assistant Director, Specialist, Children and Young People’s Services, and Paul Cowling, Service Manager – Children in Care, to the meeting.  Mick and Paul had been invited to the panel to discuss issues related to children leaving care in more depth.  Paul gave a brief presentation on the current and planned local situation before inviting a range of questions from members, including on topics such as post-21 support, regional work, and plans for a new campus within North Lincolnshire. Members were reminded that a site visit to a children’s home has been arranged for 9 March to speak informally to staff and the children and young people and that all members were invited to attend.
