Corporate Services Cabinet Member – minutes – 23 March 2010

The following items contain exempt information as defined in paragraphs 1 and 2 of Part 1 of Schedule 12A of the Local Government Act 1972 (as amended).

369 (99) LEARNING AND DEVELOPMENT TEAM – REVISED STRUCTURE – The Service Director Human Resources submitted a report seeking approval for the revised structure of the Learning and Development Team, and for the permanent establishment of the post of Skills for Life Support Officer.

The Learning and Development (L&D) team supported the corporate agenda through the provision of support and guidance to services across a wide range of corporate subjects. Demand for the work carried out by the team continued to increase, as demonstrated by the recent achievement of Investors in People.

Following various changes to the establishment of the team in 2009, the team had been left with fewer members, some of whom had been carrying out duties at a higher level than their job description. Therefore it was deemed timely to carry out a review of the L&D Team.

Full details of the proposed revised structure, including financial implications, was set out in the report.

The temporary post of Skills for Life Support Officer was established in September 2009 for one year to support the skills agenda. Funding had now been established through the SRTG process to convert the post into a permanent one.

Resolved – (a) That the revised structure, as set out in the report, be approved, acknowledging the initial implementation date for the Senior Learning and Development Officer,   and (b) that the conversion of the Skills for Life Support Officer to a permanent post, as set out in the report, be approved.

Where there is no report this is because it is exempt, as it contains information which is considered to be of a confidential nature, as detailed in the Local Government (Access to Information) Act.
