Adult Services Cabinet Member – Minutes – 18 February 2011

71 (14) INTEGRATED WORKFORCE STRATEGY – The Service Director Adult Social Services submitted a report seeking endorsement for an integrated workforce strategy with NHS North Lincolnshire to be developed.

A Vision for Adult Social Care: Capable Communities and Active Citizens 2010 (Department of Health paper) stated that local councils should take a leadership role in workforce commissioning in their area, including integrated local area workforce strategies linked to the Joint Strategic Needs Assessment’s.

Both organisations were working together to deliver on key strategic commissioning priorities. To meet these priorities the workforce needed the skills and knowledge to deliver on the outcomes expected. It was considered that Annual workforce planning would be an integral part in delivering the strategy and would inform education providers of the potential skills and knowledge gap being faced by the health and social care sector.

Adult services had a workforce strategy that focused on developing internal capability in four key areas and it was acknowledged that the integrated strategy would add to this and encompass the wider health and Social Care providers.

Resolved – That the development of an integrated workforce strategy be approved.
