Adult and Children’s Services Cabinet Member – minutes – 8 November 2011

31 (31) RESULT OF PHASE 2 OF THE CONSULTATION ON THE FUTURE OF SCOTTER HOUSE AND THE OPTIONS FOR SERVICE USERS – The Director of Adult Social Services submitted a report informing the Cabinet Member of the result of Phase 2 consultation on the future of Scotter House and options for service users.

In order for a decision to be made on the future of Scotter House, consultations took place between 14 July and 25 August 2011. Individual person centred interviews were offered to 61 service users and families who had used Scotter House since January 2010 to explore their views on it and alternative options.

Thirty four detailed consultation meetings also took place. Outcomes were that some families no longer wished to use Scotter House, or already used other resources, and some individuals were also using personal budgets to purchase different kinds of support.

A report had been written outlining the issues raised by the individuals and their families and reviewing the current information on young people who were coming through transition.

There was more than enough capacity within the independent sector to provide respite for those who used Scotter House and it was estimated, those coming through transition.

Resolved – (a) That the proposal to decommission Scotter House be approved, and (b) that individuals and their families be supported to use personal budgets to find alternative provision.
