People Cabinet Member – Minutes – 26 November 2013

110      (39) HEALTH TRAINER SERVICE – The Director of Public Health and Director of Places submitted a joint report which sought approval to transfer the funding associated with the four vacant health trainer posts to the People directorate, to fund a new form of service for the 0-19 year age group, and sought approval to issue substantive contracts of employment to the existing health trainer staff.

The Director of Public Health and the Director of Places submitted a joint report to inform the Cabinet Member of the option appraisal undertaken to assess the future provision of the Health Trainer service. The decision was taken on 15 August 2013, Minute 93 of the People Cabinet Member refers.

The existing Health Trainer service continued to deliver positive outcomes and the recent decision to transfer the service to the Places Directorate (from the PH Hub) would enable closer integration with sports, leisure & culture, safer neighbourhoods, environmental health, housing and planning & regeneration.

Further details of the proposals were outlined within the report.

Resolved –  (a) That the transfer of the funding associated with the four vacant health trainer posts to the People Directorate (from the PH Hub), to fund a new form of service for the 0-19 year age group be approved, and (b) that the issue of substantive contracts to the existing health trainer staff from 1 December 2013 be approved.
